The City of Hollywood offers purchase assistance to eligible first-time homebuyers buying a home in Hollywood. It is funded through Florida’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program. The terms below come from the City’s 2025-2028 Local Housing Assistance Plan (revised June 2025). Funding is limited and terms can change, so confirm current availability with the City before you start shopping.

How the assistance works

Up to $120,000 toward your down payment, closing costs, a mortgage rate buy-down and other purchase costs.
Up to $170,000 if the home also needs at least $10,000 of repairs, completed within 12 months of purchase.
It is a 0% interest, deferred-payment loan with a 30-year term, secured by a mortgage on the home. It is not forgiven: it is due at the end of the term, and the City offers a refinancing option on the same terms if you are not in default.
The balance becomes due early if you sell or transfer the home, rent it out, stop living in it as your primary residence, lose your homestead exemption, or do not keep the required insurance.

Who qualifies

First-time homebuyers: you have not owned a principal residence in the 3 years before your purchase. Some exceptions apply, such as a single parent who owned a home only with a former spouse.
Household income in the very low, low or moderate range. The income limits are updated every year; ask the City for the current figures for your household size.
You must live in the home as your primary residence.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums in the City of Hollywood.
The price cannot exceed 90% of the average area purchase price. Ask the City for the current maximum.

Funding and how to apply

Applications are accepted year-round and are processed first-qualified, first-served, with priority for special-needs households.
When funds run out, the City keeps a waiting list in the order complete applications were received. The City’s plan expects to fund about two homes a year, so apply early and have a backup plan.
